Russia Reteliates By Banning Imports

From 7th August Russia will impose a ban of imports from U.S , European Union, Canada, Norway and Australia the PM Dmitry  Medvedev has told a cabinet meeting in Moscow. This follows a decree from President Putin of banning imports from countries that have imposed sanctions on Russia for its support of eastern Ukraine rebels and the annexation of Crimea.
The animosity between the Federation of Russia and US and its allies has escalated over the past few months since the Ukraine turmoil that saw the annexation of Crimea.
The most recent tussle was the downing of Malaysian aircraft MH117 allegedly by pro-Russian rebels that saw a blame game script between  Russian and Ukraine. The US sent very strong messages and thereafter imposed sanction on Putin's led government.
All the unfolding between Russia and US are being viewed as a revival of the Cold War.

Heaven is No Longer Appealing

Growing up i  was constantly threatened with ‘going to the devil’s place’  anytime I did anything the community considered wrong.  For instance to deter me from telling a lie like I did not eat the sugar , I would be told all liars will go to strange place called hell or devil’s place. This place  was a big lake of ever-burning fire and  located many kilometers under the earth surface. A figure of a horned and ugly creature with a long tail toasting and turning people with a fork in a barbecue manner was  the picture created by people shaping my upbringing : parents, siblings , relatives, teachers and the clergy
I was told of  bad legacy the devil has had since the beginning of the world , it tricked the first people to commit sin and that why I had to go to school and  do the chores.
But there was an alternative, a very beautiful place called Heaven . I was told all ‘good’ people go to heaven, somewhere above the clouds. It is place they will spent the eternity  with the heavenly creators singing and placing their creator. Heaven was so hyped by the clergy of the past that people fancied the place.
Times have changed , our world is now  shaped around the information and communication , the statement that  the ‘world is a global village ‘ is more vivid than ever. We are either on our Smartphone chatting , calling ,texting , tweeting or reading something online, else we are watching tv or listening to the radio. Imagine of a place where there will not be any internet connection, no parting over the weekend or the premier league? Am not looking forward to such a place.   It is time the clergy changed their lines from a place furnished with gold where a chosen few will entertain their master forever and instead tell us of say free wi-fi, cirocs, politics-free and the mysterious technology.
It is sad that my religious beliefs were shaped by the fear of hell other than faith and believe of a divine power. Am not alone majority of Christians are being guided by this fear in their actions instead of basic human morality.
I know someone has already condemned me to the burning of hell for talking ‘ill’ of paradise. But some questions are mind bogging: How on earth  are you supposed to enjoy yourself in heaven while your entire lineage is crying because of the  torment in hell. At least according to Jesus’ parable of Lazarus and the rich man, a sibling will be begging for a drop water to cool his or tongue from you.

No Peace Between Israel And Palestine Anytime Soon

The so called international community an acronym of the US, UK and their puppet the European Union and the UN  will continue ignoring the massacre perpetrated  by the Israeli on innocent citizens in the Gaza Strip. Then after the situation escalates they will now  emerge  from nowhere looking as if  they were in Mars the entire time and pretend to push for peace while in essence they  playing to Israeli terms.
So far thirty or so  Israelis have been killed while over 700 Palestine’s have been killed in the twelve.
Hamas has sworn not back down yet in fact their spokesmen statements are that they will fight to the last man in Palestine.  A state  like Shujaiya  is a real hell on earth , the populous have literally nowhere to go ,the Israeli tanks are omnipresent. Hypocritically the Israeli Against the  laws of war the Israel military has been targeting the civilians and not legitimate  military sites of the Hamas.  In response to this accusation the Israeli term t this as propaganda talk  and say the Palestinians are victims of circumstances.
The Israeli Foreign Affair in an interview with Aljazeera ,said there are many safe place  the people of Gaza can hide. It is  just one of those stupid statement leaders make ,when in reality you cannot hide from the shelling. The Israelis have been hitting even ambulances.
Israel have been nagging about the number of rockets launched by the Hamas targeting them. They put the figure in thousand for the last five or more years but am yet to hear them state the number of people killed as a result of these rockets. I bet there aren’t any.
From the kind of force unleashed by the Israeli on Palestinians  it a fact that the three Israeli teenagers killed in Palestine were nothing but catalyst . Israel uses any possible  pretext of  to expand its occupation on Gaza. And why would  anyone expect their BFF the US to intervene where they bear the  same character and play the same . How many countries has the US destabilized in the name of terrorism when in reality they are after oil and other valuable? The Arab Spring is their latest of their treacherous hands.
For the last seven decades there has not been peace between Israel and Palestine . And even if this current situation is solved lasting peace will not be achieved. Why? How will there be peace if the terms that everybody backs are those of Israel,   unimplemented treaties.

There will never be peace without addressing the underlying issues like illegal Israeli occupation, control of Palestine waters and other rights. For instant the predicaments of people living in Area A, B and C . I mean an unconditional ceasefire proposed by Egypt and US  will Never work.

Maradona:Messi Did Not Deserve The Golden Ball

Immediately after the World Cup finals and players were awarded ,i questioned  why Messi got the Golden Ball award. Apparently am not alone, football superstar Deigo Maradona shocked World Cup fans after he announced that he believed Lionel Messi did not deserve to be named the best player of the 2014 tournament, adding that the Argentina forward won only for “marketing” purposes.
Messi received the award after Argentina lost 1-0 to Germany in the final match on Sunday. However, he did not look happy, but rather embarrassed when he went to collect the Golden Ball for most outstanding player.
Though he had scored four goals in the group stages, he failed to excel his performance in the knockout rounds, where he scored none. Especially against the Netherlands in the semi-final, which Argentina had won through penalties.
Maradona, the winner of the Golden Ball when Argentina won the World Cup in 1986 said he could tell that Messi did not want to go up and collect the trophy. "I would give heaven and earth to Leo, but when marketing people want him to win something he didn't (deserve to) win, it is unfair," he added.
Maradona said Colombia's midfielder James Rodriguez deserved to win the Golden Ball award due to his performance upto the quarter finals and better still scoring a total of six goal in the whole tournament.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter also expressed his utter surprise, "Shall I be diplomatic or tell the truth, OK the truth...I was a bit surprised he was the choice but his goals were decisive at the start of the tournament,"

Why Our Security Personnel is Chasing Shadows

I feel let down,if you do not you should be. The security  of the citizens of this great nation Kenya is in jeopardy , that a fact that we have been forced to come to terms with.Folks residing in the former Nairobi ,Eastern,Nyanza, part of Western and Central provinces may feel safe. But that is just a feeling ,nobody is safe. From the foregoing you may never whether your resident is the next target.
You may play this down, but let me inform you that a poor people is a venerable people.
We are living in a nation where the citizenry security is only assured but not guaranteed. The Coast is no longer a tourist destination but a place where villains have field days. In the last three or so months we have lost a reportedly more than a hundred innocent lives in the hand of  a militia. From eye-witnesses' account this bunch of sadists is armor that mocks our security personnel.
Truth be told there are real and imminent issues that deserve immediate address.I may not be certain what the real cause of these heinous acts is but i have watched accounts and read from the residents to know land either is the issue or among the issues.
The response to the string of attacks is what bothers me. The aftermath of every attack, the government makes so tough talk and then tens of security personnel are deployed to 'beef up' security. The irony is that the wake of deployment and tough talks another attacks is made. After this another troop is deployed  in the new area  and the cycle contineous.
I am not  a security expert and i do not need to be one to realized the number do not count ,it is the strategy that does. The paramilitary, the regular police, the administration  and the police reservists are just chasing shadows in Lamu.  These folks do not know who or what they are after. It is a case of waking up grabbing a fishing rod and just ending to the river. It is such a person you find at a water fall 'fishing'. I mean without a strategy  cut the crap.
Let me advise the security chiefs; A war is not won by brawn but it is won by the  brains and strategies. The presence of combat clad men in say M16 will not deter or scare away the militia. It is a shame how much finance and time we have spent on Somalia yet we cannot replicate that in our very backyard.
It does not take a genius to have known the attackers start off by paralyzing the police stations before proceeding to the unarmed populous.
If the brains behind the security system in Kenya have run out of ideas, let them be relieved off their duties. It is only in Africa where clueless folks are swinging on chairs in big offices while experts are only found in lecture halls, media interviews or rotting somewhere in the village. Blame it on Nepotism,Tribalism,Corruption and 'rewards' that we have some persons filling certain positions that they have absolutely no idea of running them.
I don't care who is killing Kenyans ,whoever it is the constitutional duty for the government to protect each citizen from real and perceived danger.

Is Governor Mutua A PR Guru?

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has been accused of being a PR professional following the exposed pics of the much hyped Kithimani to Makutano ma Mwala road that cost the county a reportedly Ksh.650 million within three months. The road is now all patches . Two weeks ago Dr.mutua was hosted by Julie Gichuru on Citizen Tv's Sunday Live where he said the contract was awarded to eleven contractors. Each contractor doing a stretch of three kilometers of the thirty three kilometers road. During the show Mutua claimed that the road was built through a 'new technology' of using chippings .Feeling like an engineer Mutua explained. " You put a first layer of four inch chippings with bitumen ,then after that you let cars pass on it . Then you put a finer chippings layer ,once that layer sits on it ,for about three to four weeks the bitumen that was on the ground comes up and forms the tarmac layer on top...." He went on to say that what people are seeing are the loose chippings that is meant to be blown away by the cars and after three weeks the road would be smooth.
Kenyans on Twitters(#KOT) exposed the shoddy job by the 'PR Guru' via the hash-tag:
#AsItIs33Km  check out these pics and be the judge:

Dear Kenyans, Ponder These Words

Kenya is always politicking ,amid which lives and properties are lost because of some fueled hate.
Take time and ponder these powerful words of a greater philosopher: The rich demonstrate their priorities by allowing us to starve at home, whilst encouraging us to die in their greedy wars-Mahatma Gandthi

Why The TJRC Report Must Be Implemented In Lamu

Why SabaSaba Is Not an Excuse ,Nor Are The National Prayers A Solution

I have been observing this pro and anti #SabaSaba  drama from a safe distance. From the unfolding it is fair to say both parties are to blame for the fever that ailing Kenyans over 7/7.

To say the least the populous is dreading the so called "Kenyan defining point". The government PR machinery and moles on their part  have branded the Kenyan version of the Arab Spring.
The thing is none of the two are worth listening to leave alone siding with. These are "animals of the same den" ,i mean these folks wine and dine together after casting a circus on the podium we have set for them. Meanwhile what do we simple-minded  Kenyans  do? We slaughter each other, threaten our neighbors do not belong here and they ought to "go back to their home" and the "digital" folks take it to the social media to shamelessly spread the hate.
These events have taught me one thing, contrary to the popular believe, politicians are not entirely to blame, for instance how many people have discouraged you from being in the city on Monday? Or how many of us would report to work on Monday if a memo was not sent to warn us of dare consequences  if we fail to show up? We are our own enemies.

Unless you ail from Mars ,you will concur with me that this nation is facing many challenges, most of which can be averted.Insecurity and rampant corruption(among the CORD dialogue issue) pop out as the most obvious examples.
It has been said that terrorism is a global problem and Kenya is no exception.Yes no one disputes that, but most these attacks that happened in the recent past in our nation can we attribute them to Terrorism or"Terrorism"?Whichever it is what has our government done to show at least we have a government? West Gate attack could be slightly excused since it was a case of first bite, but the later no.
The government has allowed illegal militia to have a field day in our very land that our fore father fought so dearly to liberate from the colonial bondage. After the West Gate attack the government promised to have a commission look into the matter. Almost a year later nothing no commission No arrest. Then only thing to reckon about the ordeal was the reckless statement from Ole Lenku.
From then on a series of attacks have been executed resulting to loss of precious lives of innocent Kenyans.
These unfortunate events put the government into test,it is an open secret that it failed miserably at least according to me and my likes. This weakness was the opposition's opportunity. Not bad, they ought to put the government to task.

Instead of handling these grave issues the government has been busy telling off , painting grey  and blaming the opposition.  Discouraging Kenyans from attending the SabaSaba rally by insisting that we will all go to work on Monday as usual.
If the government has "information" that  CORD is behind attacks in Mpeketoni and else where in Kenya why the hell don't they arrest, try and lock the fellows in maximum prisons? These gimmicks are intolerable. The government must cut the crap and deliver tangibles and stop investing so heavily on empty PR.
We have been fed with the conspiracy that politics(which in our Kenyan case always means the opposition) is to blame for everything. This is the most stupid excuse i have ever heard. Nowadays it is acceptable to blame CORD after twenty tweeps unfollow you on Twitter.
Let me remind the government that the NARC government was rocked by politics for most of its era after the fail out over the Wako draft in 2005,that did not bar it from achieving some of the biggest successes in post independent Kenya. In short the call for opposition to "let the government work" is pure bullshit.
CORD may have a point or but i do not think their approach was the best option. This however does not warrant the government to disregard it as a on man's agenda. This one man is the voice of five million Kenyans who voted for him in the 2013's general elections.
And to the NCCK and other quarters including the president who have been telling Kenyans to pray and going to the extent of holding "national" prayers,Kenya does not need prayers! What miracle do you expect God to pull when say the security officers are busy watching some grown ups not to misbehave in political rallies instead of protecting Kenyans at the coast and else where ? The good book says faith without action is dead.

It is surprising that these "men of God" are silent when there an extra judicial killing of a Muslim cleric. This bunch is an item to be bought at the highest bidder.
They are the same people who "preached" against the new constitution on the ground that in advocated for ABORTION!

A Prisoner Impregnates Four Prison Guards

This is utterly awkward but it is real.

Tavon White a gang leader and a notorious criminal in Maryland U.S.A has impregnated for guards who are meant to be watching him.

White is accused of running a scheme to smuggle contraband into prison by persuading 13 female prison guards while behind bars. But for the four women, that persuasion included getting... and eventually getting pregnant.

A federal indictment reads Tavon has been charged with a plot to smuggle drugs, cellphones and contraband stuff into jail, together with prison guards, six fellow inmates and five gang ties who operated outside the jails.

The indictment adds the ring involved sex between the inmates and the guards, that led to four of the officers being impregnated by White.

Tavon is being accused of "corrupting"the female officers through personal and sexual relationships and other bribes. Eventually he convinced them to join his ring.

The gang members and the officers have been charged with conspiracy ,drug possession and distribution and money laundering.

So a criminal with no money,no freedom and arguably no looks now has four children on the way and their mothers are prison guards? This guy is a hell of a persuader

China Bans Ramadan Activities

Chinese authorities in the region of Xinjiang have banned Muslim students and civil servants from taking part in all “religious activities” during the holy month of Ramadan.
A series of notices have been issued by schools and government departments that have strictly forbidden Muslim faithfuls from taking part in fasting, and some have even been banned from performing their daily prayers in mosques.
Notices said the bans were designed to prevent the use of schools and government offices to “promote religion”, while local political organisations have been reminded of the ruling party’s officially atheist stance.

But the decision to ban Ramadan is particularly controversial for Xinjiang, coming amid an extensive security crackdown on the minority Uighur Muslim population.
Uighur has been blamed for a string of recent terror attacks on civilian crowds and government institutions, but the group denies involvement and activists have accused Beijing of exaggerating the threat as an excuse to impose restrictions.

A statement to the schools read ,"No teacher can participate in religious activities, instill religious thoughts in students or coerce students into religious activities".
It went on: “Students shall not participate in religious activities; they shall not study scripts or read poems at script and choir classes; they shall not wear any religious emblems; and no parent or others can force students to have religious beliefs or partake in religious activities.”
The government has run a series of articles through state controlled news channels saying fasting is detrimental to the physical well-being of young students, who should eat regularly

The ruling party says religion and education should be kept separate and students should not be subject to religious influences. That rule is rarely enforced for children of Han Chinese, who, if they have a religion, are mostly Buddhist, Daoist or Christian.

MTN Leads in Social Responsibility

MTN,Africa's biggest telecommunication provider has forged its strides towards achieving corporate social responsibility.
The telecommunication giant has built a state-of-the-art senior high school at the tune of
GH¢437,000 (about $136 563 or KSh.10 million) in Ghana.
The newly-inaugurated Owerriman Senior High School, located in the Ashanti Region, was overrun by old age and lack of maintenance. But now, it is a modern two-storey building with 16 rooms for the boys’ dormitory, thanks to MTN
The MTN Foundation has spent more than $2.7 million on educational and health projects and support economic empowerment projects.
Many organisations in Africa are parasites that siphon from their clientele, treat them unprofessionally because they enjoy monopoly.
Kudos to MTN for giving back to the community, such a noble course

How Facebook Manipulated Your News Feed Without Your Consent

You may not have noticed it but in one week of January 2012,Facebook skewed your News Feeds to either make you  happier or sadder than normal.
The number of positive and negative comments that users saw on their feeds of articles and photos was altered. People shown fewer positive words were found to write more negative posts, while the reverse happened with those exposed to fewer negative terms, according to the trial of random Facebook users.
Researchers analyzed the words used in posts to automatically decide whether they were likely to be positive or negative, and shifted them up or down according to which group users fell into.
Since there are an average of 1,500 possible stories that could show up on a user's News Feed at one time, Facebook uses an algorithm that it says analyses users’ behavior on the site to determine which of those stories to show
It found that emotions spread across the network, and that friends tended to respond more to negative posts. Users who were exposed to more emotional posts of either type tended to withdraw from posting themselves.
The experiment was carried out on almost than 700,000 Facebook users. Anyone who used the English version of Facebook automatically qualified for the experiment.
The data showed that online messages influence readers’ “experience of emotions,” which may affect offline behavior, the researchers said. Some Facebook users turned to Twitter to express outrage over the research as a breach of their privacy.
The research has drawn criticism in that Facebook could use the research to encourage the users to post more and by government agencies to manipulate the feelings of users in some countries.
There have been also criticism also on the legality of this experiment. However Facebook Data Use Policy(part of Terms of Service that you agree to when signing up),reserves the right for Facebook to use information “for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research and service improvement.”
According to the researchers this constituted the informed consent to conduct the research hence legal'

Facebook's Response to Critisism Over Secret Manipulation of Users

Facebook has defended itself against a sharp criticism over an psychological experiment  it conducted to manipulate user moods by altering amount of positive or negative content appearing of News Feed. Their defense was that the experiment was meant to "“improve our service and to make the content people see on Facebook as relevant and engaging as possible.”
However technologists and lawyers have expressed fear that the same method could be used to manipulate users for political gain ,academicians on their part have criticized Facebook for failing to acquire the consent necessary   for subjects of human experiment.
A Facebook Spokesperson  said relieved that research was conducted for a single week in 2012 but none of the data used was associated with a specific person's Facebook account.
" We carefully consider what research we do and have a strong internal review process. There is no unnecessary collection of people’s data in connection with these research initiatives and all data is stored securely.”   he added.
Some 689,000 users were drafted into the experiment which manipulated a "small percentage" of content. The study concluded that: "Emotions expressed by friends, via online social networks, influence our own moods, constituting, to our knowledge, the first experimental evidence for massive-scale emotional contagion via social networks."
Fears have been raised of Social Networks manipulating people emotions on political and other areas using material from their personal lives.
This experiment is particularly  disturbing following the revelations of Edward Snowden that the US plot to create a Cuba Twitter to causes unrest in Cuba

Jubilee:Stop Blaming The Opposition ,Hold Up and Correct Your mistakes

"Jubilee government should be given time to exercise  its agenda" We are all familiar with repetitive phrase  it is now the new "Tunaomba Serikali" phrase but unlike the later this it is mostly from the leaders and Not the wananchi.
The Jubilee sycophants, sympathizers, self professed activists and political scientists, and PR machinery have been singing this song every time they hit the podium at rallies, weddings and even funerals. These are the folks who have now become like co-presenters in media houses.
We know them, they are always on you TV screen every evening and on your  Radio next morning  in the breakfast show.
This bunch of idle leaders say a lot of nothing during the so called interviews. Their main agenda is Raila Odainga, the villain. The pest that ought to be exterminated or silenced if this government is to provide any service worth mention to its populous.
Let me inform these folks that Kenyans gave the Jubilee government go a right to exercise its mandate on March 4th 2013. What other time are you asking to be given?
Kenya is a democratic country ,with a constitution that acknowledges  the place of the opposition, this is not a monarch or a dictatorship.
The opposition role is to keep the government of the day in check. They are the government in waiting. The problem is there are intolerant people in this government and the country in general. the likes who will not take any correction , too blind to see their flaws that are too glare and wants to show 'who is the boss'.
The opposition may be riding overboard, but this should no be an excuse for the government not to play it role. How is the noise about Saba Saba and the national dialogue barring the digital government from procuring the laptops for class one kids for instance?
The government must refrain from blaming their flaws to the opposition: "There is no security problem in Kenya. That is opposition propaganda." Tourism CS Phylis Kandie speaking to BBC radio. And the only way to silence the opposition is serving Kenyans diligently Not paying media houses to soil the reputation of opposition leaders, that will only make them more popular.

There will never be a time for 'work and peace'. Politics will never take a break. Those are dump excuses. Live with it.

The 69-year-old man was in a bar not far from the match itself at the Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte when he fell ill and was taken to hospital.
According to a spokesperson for the state health department, the man was taken to hospital but died two hours later. Officials said he had suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes, the Estado de Minas newspaper reported.
Health officials said that in total they had to treat 98 people during the match, including a 50-year-old woman who also had a heart problem while watching the shootout and a man whose nose was broken in a fight.

The mayor of Bogota was forced to issue a statement calling on people to be more careful when celebrating, after a number spilled out into the streets and fired guns into the air.
And it has also emerged that an England fan had a part of his ear “bitten off” during his team’s own match against Uruguay in the group stages.
The fan has made a formal complaint but the attacker, who is thought to be another England fan, has not been identified.

How People Really Feel About Seeing Your Relationship On Facebook

What's the quickest way to turn off your Facebook friends? It just may be by over-sharing details of your happy romantic life.

(medium sharing They even noted in their study, "People who posted a status not about the relationship were marginally more likable than those with a low relationship disclosure status."
So next time you post your relationship status on Facebook know you ain't pleasing everyone.

Suarez Punishment is Excessive- Chiellini

Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini has termed the punishment on Luis Suarez has excessive.
Suarez bit on the shoulder Chiellini during the Italy versus Uruguay world cup match that ended 2-1 in favor of Uruguay.

"Now inside me there's no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez for an incident that happened on the pitch and that's done. There only remain the anger and the disappointment about the match.
At the moment my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period.
I have always considered unequivocal the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time I believe that the proposed formula is excessive. I sincerely hope that he will be allowed, at least, to stay close to his team mates during the games because such a ban is really alienating for a player." - Giorgio Chiellini

India's New PM Becomes the Forth Most Followed World Leader on Twitter

@NarendraModi the India's Prime Minister who has been in power for just or so has hit five million plus followers on Twitter making the Forth most followed world leader. Modi has beating the likes of @WhiteHouse which has 4.78 million followers.
Although India has 200 million active web users,in 2009 there was there was only one Indian politician on Twitter -- Shashi Tharoor, who then had only 6,000 followers.
Dubbed “India’s first social media election” by CNN -- Twitter, Facebook and Google played a huge role in the new prime minister’s campaign. On Holi, a Hindu festival which took place in April, he sent his followers Direct Messages on Twitter, wishing them a happy holiday. Beyond that, he used GoogleHangouts and holograms during campaign appearances.
In 2013, 20 million Indian election-related conversations took place on Twitter. Modi, unlike his opponent Rahul \Gandhi, used Twitter relentlessly, and yes -- he posted a selfie.

Why Google doesn’t care about college degrees

Google isn’t big on college degrees, although the search giant is inundated with applicants touting perfect GPAs from Ivy League schools.
Google’s chairman and head of hiring, Laszlo Bock, has given a few insights in the New York Times on how he sorts through a multitude of bright applicants.
The upshot is that Google values the skills and experiences that candidates get in college, but a degree doesn’t tell them much about talent or grit.

You don’t need a college degree to be talented

“When you look at people who don’t go to school and make their way in the world, those are exceptional human beings. And we should do everything we can to find those people,” Bock said.
Many businesses “require” a college degree; at Google, the word “college” isn’t even its official guide to hiring. With the rise of self-paced college courses and vocational learning, plenty of driven people can teach themselves all of the necessary skills to work at the company.

Demonstrate a skill, not an expertise

“If you take somebody who has high cognitive ability, is innately curious, willing to learn and has emergent leadership skills, and you hire them as an HR person or finance person, and they have no content knowledge, and you compare them with someone who’s been doing just one thing and is a world expert, the expert will go: ‘I’ve seen this 100 times before; here’s what you do,’” Bock said.
College degrees are, almost by definition, a certificate of expertise. A degree in journalism is a giant badge meant to tell the world that you know at least a little bit about the trade of telling stories and interviewing people.
But a degree really doesn’t say what a graduate can do. Can they present an idea in front of a crowd? Can they build a website? Can they think interestingly about problems, or did they just pass some tests?

Logic is learned, and stats are superimportant

“Humans are by nature creative beings, but not by nature logical, structured-thinking beings. Those are skills you have to learn,” Bock said. “I took statistics at business school, and it was transformative for my career. Analytical training gives you a skill set that differentiates you from most people in the labor market.”
Logical thinking goes way beyond programming. For instance, back in 2010, Facebook put up a blog post claiming that political candidates with more fans were more likely to win their race, implying that getting more Facebook fans would improve their chances. In no uncertain terms, this was a phenomenally bad argument.
Maybe candidates who were already more popular just happened to have more fans. And what about candidates with fewer fans that won their races? In these cases, why did fans not matter?
The Facebook employees who ran the statistics understood some basic logic, but they didn’t demonstrate analytical thinking. Sifting through data requires training in the latest techniques for understanding causality and creatively exploring patterns (FYI: Facebook has gotten a lot better about these types of political claims since 2010).

Prove grit

“It looks like the thing that separates out the capable students from the really successful ones is not so much their knowledge…but their persistence at something,” Google chairman, Eric Schmidt said.
For some people, college is just really easy. They can play 10 rounds of beer-pong until 4 a.m. and still ace an organic-chemistry exam the next day while their studious roommate is up to their eyeballs in color-coded flash cards and squeaks by with a B.
A college degree can’t tell Google whether an applicant is naturally smart or is a hard worker. Apparently, Google would rather mold someone with grit rather than someone who is a lazy high-achiever.

If you go to college, focus on skills

“My belief is not that one shouldn’t go to college … most don’t put enough thought into why they’re going and what they want to get out of it,” Block said.
Both Bock and Schmidt are adamant that most people should go to college but that skills and experience are more important than the stamp of expertise. Bock says Google is looking for the kinds of projects candidates completed or what they accomplished at an internship.
I honestly can’t remember the last time someone asked me what my major in college was. If you want a job at Google (or some other prestigious company), don’t focus so much on your major, and make sure you graduate with all the skills and experiences you need to do awesome things in the world-VB News

Could This Be The RE-BIRTH OF USSR?

Markets

Eurasian Emblem
Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have agreed to set up an economic union, in a deal signed Thursday by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterparts, media reports said. The Eurasian Economic Union reunites the former Soviet countries in a project to develop a shared market and to harmonize economic policy, beginning January 1, 2015. Ukraine was in talks to join the union before the ouster of former president Viktor Yanukovych by opposition groups focused on an EU alliance. While the newly elected Ukraine government is seen as likely to pursue an EU pact, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko appeared confident it will sign up. "I am sure one day the leaders of Ukraine will understand where the country's happiness is," he said at the signing ceremony in Kazakhstan's capital Astana, the Wall Street Journal reported. Of the remaining former Soviet republics, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are expected to join the Eurasian Economic Union.
The EURO zone has never really acted or appeared to be a power block that matches the collapsed USSR. In fact it is more or less of USA puppet .
The EURO zone has never been a rival to the so called Super power.
China has put on an economic rivalry. It is not enough, we would do with another economic power horse for the markets of our products especially here in Africa.

Google Unveils New Android Version

Google Inc. (GOOG) unveiled a new version of its Android software for smartphones and other devices as it battles Apple Inc. to be the foundation for mobile technology.

The new version of Android, the first major update of the mobile operating system since last year, will let developers easily implement features such as animations and will include more privacy tools, Google executives said at the company’s annual developer gathering in San Francisco. The Web-search company also showed a new Android television service and new wearable devices underpinned by Android and rolled out software that will work in cars.

Google is looking beyond its traditional desktop Web-search business and is expanding its software into new devices as consumers increasingly gravitate to mobile computing. Competition is stiff, with Apple and others jockeying for a bigger share of the mobile market. Google’s annual developer conference is key to its efforts to continually refresh Android and maintain support from software makers. The company is also spreading Android into new areas, including vehicles.

“We have been working very hard,” Google’s head of Android, Sundar Pichai, said at the event, adding that the system now has more than 1 billion active users. “This is one of the most comprehensive releases we have done.”

Smartphones based on Android, which Google gives to hardware manufacturers for free, made up 78 percent of the global industry in 2013, up from 66 percent in 2012, according to Gartner Inc. The No. 2 player was Apple’s iPhone, which had 16 percent, down from 19 percent. An early version of the next Android software will be available to programmers tomorrow.

Crowded Market

“With Apple already in the TV and car space and rumored to be attacking wearables, Google doesn’t want developers to have any excuse to choose Apple’s ecosystem over Android,” Carl Howe, an analyst at the Yankee Group Inc., wrote in an e-mail. “Google wants to ensure that it is all those places too.”
The event was interrupted twice by protesters with one raising concerns about Google’s efforts into robotics. Both were eventually dealt with by security workers and Google executives joked about the interruptions from the stage.
Google’s rivals are also expanding software options for mobile phones and tablets. Earlier this month, Apple introduced new health and connected-home features for its iOS software powering the iPhone and iPad. Amazon.com Inc. last week unveiled the Fire Phone, adding its lineup of tablets and television hardware.

Emerging Markets

The new version of Android will include more privacy tools and a feature that lets people disable their smartphone if they get stolen. The new software will also let developers more easily put in animations, shadows and lighting so that users get a more real-life experience when they touch objects on a screen, said Google’s Android design chief, Matias Duarte.
To foster the growth of Android in emerging markets, which are some of the biggest growth areas for mobile devices, Google rolled out an initiative called Android One to develop low-cost smartphones, beginning with three manufacturers in India. Pichai referenced an Android One device that costs less than $100 as an example.
“We are working with carriers in these markets to provide affordable carrier packages with these devices,” Pichai said at the event.

Wearable Devices

Google also showed new smartwatches, with one from LG Electronics Inc. that had apps loaded onto it and that is immediately available through Google’s Play online store. Some of the watches have capabilities that include using the gadget as a remote control for other devices. While Samsung Electronics Co. has been offering smartwatches with its Gear lineup, some of which are based on competing software called Tizen, Google will begin selling a new Samsung watch supporting Android Wear today, called Gear Live.
Google’s push into wearable devices comes as Apple looks to move into the market. Several analysts have said Apple may unveil a smartwatch later this year.
Google also unveiled plans to get Android into the living room. While the company has already introduced software for televisions and the Chromecast dongle for streaming Web content to TVs, more devices will debut featuring upgraded Android software, Google said today. Sony Corp., Sharp Corp., LG Electronics and Asustek Computer Inc. will be among the partners for Android TV.

TVs, Cars

At today’s event, Google also introduced Android Auto, its bid to get the software into cars. With Andy Brenner, a Google product manager, seated in a car on stage, the company said Android Auto will bring digital tools and media into vehicles, with capabilities for tailored maps. Developers will be able to use a software development kit to create apps for cars, the company said. Some cars will begin including Android Auto by the end of the year.
Google said it’s acquiring Appurify Inc., a provider of testing software for mobile applications. Terms of the purchase weren’t disclosed.
The Web company also unveiled new tools to tie its Android platform with its Chromebook laptop lineup. That includes deeper integration with Android applications from smartphones, giving easy access to software such as note-taking service Evernote Corp.
Google also unveiled new tools for bringing Android and Google services in the workplace. That included Google Drive for Work, an online storage service that includes security extras for businesses.-Bloomberg

A Dark Day for Media Freedom

The world has condemned Egypt after finding Al Jazeera journalists guilty. Two have been sentenced to a  jail term of seven and one to ten years by an Egyptian court .Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy, and Baher Mohamed were convicted for aiding the Muslim Brotherhood and reporting false news.
Baher Mohamed got an addition of three years for possession of ammunition; a used bullet casing he picked from the ground during the protests.
The three were arrested in December last year as they covered th e aftermath  of Morsi ouster in July.
The Muslim Brotherhood that saw ousted president Morsi ascend to presidency last year, was declared a "terrorist" organization by the interim president Adly Mansour .
Other Al Jazeera journalists Alaa Bayoumi, Anas Abdel-Wahab Khalawi Hasan,  Khaleel Aly Khaleel Bahnasy, Mohamed Fawzi, Dominic Kane, and Sue Turton.were tried in absentia and sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Al Jazeera has termed the verdict as  defying "logic, sense and any semblance of justice".There is only one sensible outcome now. For the verdict to be overturned, and justice to be recognized by Egypt," Al Jazeera English managing director Al Anstey said in a statement.
"Today three colleagues and friends were sentenced, and will continue to be kept behind bars for doing a brilliant job of being great journalists. 'Guilty' of covering stories with great skill and integrity. 'Guilty' of defending people’s right to know what is going on in their world," Anstey said in a statement.
There are emerging questions as to why the US has given Egypt $500 million as military aid. Am not surprised by this, last year Hillary Clinton was accused of having a hand in planning and funding the Morsi coup d'etat. The boggling question is whether USA is funding militia to oust legitimate governments, create puppet leadership and fund them to fight perceived terrorists.
The verdict is a dark day for the media freedom that is enshrined in sober democracies .
The verdict can however be appealed in a higher court of law.  Egypt's public prosecutor last week ordered the release of another Al Jazeera journalist, Abdullah al-Shamy, on health grounds after he spent more than 130 days on hunger strike.

Al jazeera was banned from live coverage in Egypt on July 3 , hours after Morsi ouster.

Zambia

High Court judge Justice Muiinde Sivwapa sentenced Goliath Nyirenda to 15 years in jail for having carnal knowledge of  his neighbour's chicken that died shortly after the act.
The sentence read:“I find your conduct disgusting and inhuman. It is unacceptable for a person in their right frame of mind to have sex with a chicken, so I therefore sentence you to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour,”
